Engineering Construction Operations Manager - South East England

We are looking to recruit a Engineering Construction Operations Manager on behalf of our global engineering client based in Hersham.

This is an initial 12 month contract and is within IR 35.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

The Construction Operations Manager will be responsible for managing administration aspects within the EMEA region and will be required to assess the EMEA and regional Construction teams to achieve excellence in construction performance against KPI’s related to EHS, Cost, Schedule and Quality.

Be supportive in the recruitment, training and career development of resources in the Construction Engineering Group to ensure that projects, proposals and development work can be resourced with the necessary skills and experience to ensure flawless execution.

Assess the Work Process for EMEA Construction Engineering and work with the Global and Regional Functional Management to ensure that Work Processes, Procedures and Standards are available, applied consistently and followed in a disciplined manner.

Support in the assessment of safety, execution, resourcing and financial and schedule performance to ensure timely reporting to Executive Management.

Assessing performance and drive improvements in the organisation.

The Construction Operations Manager will be accountable for the supervision of both improvements and initiatives with the EMEA Construction Group and will interface with Construction Engineering Managers to ensure implementation of such improvements and initiatives.

 

SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS

The Construction Operations Manager should be an experienced manager able to operate independently and able to take decisions where appropriate and to offer guidance on day-to-day interfaces with internal and external partners.

You are expected to support the efficient running of the EMEA Construction Group by being the focal point to said internal and external partners to such as including Talent Acquisition, HR, Performance/Assurance, Auditing, Reporting, Onboarding and Training.

You must have the highest levels of communication skills both internally and externally.

You must be able to inspire confidence and leadership ability through communication at particularly the EMEA Construction Groups operational levels such as Construction Engineering Management and Site Management. 

As Construction Operations Manager you will be expected to communicate with and influence key internal stakeholders in an effort to ensure construction is fully represented during the project lifecycle.

This role requires particular knowledge of both site construction management and operational head office administration experience.  It is particularly important that the Construction Operations Manager has the skillset to understand and contribute to a growing organisation and provide the support to the EMEA Manager of Construction in day-to-day administration of the group.

An ability to handle a wide range of demands and commitments and to have the skills to manage these while maintaining the confidence of the EMEA Manager of Construction together with internal stakeholders.

The Construction Operations Manager must act with the highest regard to the safety of the work undertaken, the health and welfare of employees, contractors and himself, and for the environment. He must have the highest personal standard of integrity.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Engineering Degree or equivalent (required)

Membership of an Engineering Institution and Chartered Engineer status (desirable)

20 years in a related industry with 15 years EPC Construction Management at senior levels is also preferable

To create a high performing, confident and diverse Construction Management team with a newly formed European office and then to provide the leadership and direction to successfully set up and execute the Construction phase of complex projects throughout the region often in new territories which meet company objectives for budget and schedule performance that are seen by external organisations as extremely demanding and aggressive. To achieve the expected standard of safety in areas with a low safety culture, by imposing company standards and culture of Safety on Construction Contractors to achieve this wherever we may be working.
