Buyer - North Lanarkshire

2020 Recruitment is working with one of our electronic clients who are looking to add a Buyer to their site in the North Lanarkshire area.

This is a permanent position but could be a contract role if this is preferred.

The Role

The Buyer will report to the Procurement Manager and will be responsible for the purchase of a wide range of electronic, electrical, and mechanical hardware as well as plant maintenance and repair services.  The Buyer will work closely with new and existing suppliers to ensure products are purchased at the right time, are of high quality, and are purchased at the best price to ensure continuity of supply. 

Responsibilities & Duties

As the Buyer your duties will include the following:

  • Prepare and raise purchase orders and order schedules
  • Purchase Mechanical, PCB, Electronics & Electrical components and hardware
  • Negotiate, improve prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings
  • Ensure parts and products are correctly represented on the ERP system pre & post purchase
  • Assess the supply chain to ensure quality, delivery and price targets are met
  • Monitor and advice on any Procurement issues which present risk or opportunity to the business
  • Research alternative suppliers and components to mitigate against long-lead times
  • Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes and new Sales enquiries
  • Maintain and manage professional supplier relationships whilst maintaining good communications
  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines, purchasing policies, and procedures during supplier negotiations and order placement

Requirements

To be considered for the Buyer position you must have the following skills & experience:

  • Electronic component knowledge is preferred but not essential
  • Analytical, numerically astute, and possessing problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly using Excel reports
  • Experience or knowledge of MRP, purchase order placement, and material receipt processes
  • Good knowledge of purchasing, negotiation, commercial understanding, and cost breakdown
  • Good communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of legal terms and the consequences within a purchase contract
  • Previous experience of working in a purchasing team preferably within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in working closely with suppliers
  • Able to perform effectively in the purchasing team sharing experiences and techniques with colleagues
