Construction Manager - South East England

We are looking for an experienced Construction Manager for a 6 month initial contract to be based at our global engineering facility at Didcot.

The Construction Manager, working alongside the Project Engineers will be responsible for the successful planning and execution of all the projects in accordance with all safety, quality and service standards applicable within the sub-region industrial gases organisation. Where required, the Construction Manager will be required to manage smaller discrete projects that have not been assigned a full time Project Manager. The successful candidate will be based on site and will manage all aspects of the variety of  projects to a budget and timeframe. This is a full time role Monday – Friday and some weekend work may be required depending on the individual project execution plan.

The projects involves a variety of aspects and disciplines, such as civil works, excavations, installation of process equipment and piping, installation of HV and LV electrical systems and equipment, demolition and renovation & erection of new structures, etc.

 

Key Role Requirements

  • Experienced Construction Manager who can work autonomously, reliably communicating.
  • Previous experience preferred with industrial gases.
  • Strong communicator, written and oral in English language.
  • Strong planning, coordination and motivating qualities.
  • Strong adherence to budget and programme constraints.
  • Good understanding of multidisciplinary installation.
  • Ability to manage materials to site in a timely manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple contractors in a congested environment.
  • Delivers on commitments to high level of quality and accuracy, within defined schedule parameters.
  • Use of and familiarity with process and safety tools such as P&ID’s and HAZOPs.
  • Understanding of typical design datasheet/drawings and familiar with general design/construction standards in Mechanical and E&I field which can be related to those in industrial gases.
  • Proven construction safety experience and knowledge, covering key areas such as excavation, lifting and cranage, working at heights and fall arrest, confined space entry, hot work, oxygen cleaning and inspection, pneumatic pressure testing, etc.
  • Change Management processes and implementation.
  • Project costing skills for evaluation and managing constructability.
  • Project planning skills.
  • Proven management or supervisory experience.
  • Construction control systems.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a heavy and diverse workload.

 

Qualifications / Skills Required

  • An engineering degree.
  • A minimum of 10 years experience, split between both Project Construction and Project Management positions and a demonstrable understanding of Construction as a discipline.
  • Experience on excavation projects and knowledge of the regulations and safety requirements around excavation activities is desirable.
  • Project skills including Budgeting, Cost Management, Schedule Management, Admin and Organisation Skills, Project Planning.
  • A minimum of 2 years site construction experience in a site leadership role.
  • Familiarity with design drawings and ability to relate these to their application on site
  • Experience of turnkey construction scope including installation of equipment and packages, interconnecting pipework and instrument / electrical cable, infrastructure/utilities scope, tie ins and pipeline networks. 
  •   Experience in project definition stage constructability work.
  •   Working knowledge of relevant legislation, codes and standards with the ability to manage contractors.
  •   Computer literate (MS Office components).
