Design Technician

Great Yarmouth | 12 Month Contract | £13.94 - £15.39 per hour

2020 Recruitment are working with our engineering client who are looking to add a Design Technician to their team in Great Yarmouth on a 12-month contract.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established organisation operating within the energy sector, where you will play a key role in supporting the design and development of specialist mechanical equipment.

The successful candidate will assist with the production of engineering drawings, product development activities and project coordination, working closely with internal departments, suppliers and customers to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to a high standard.

The Role

As the Design Technician, you will be responsible for producing and maintaining engineering drawings while supporting the wider engineering team with design, development and project activities.

This position would suit someone with previous drafting or design experience who has worked with SolidWorks and is looking to further develop their career within a technical engineering environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Design Technician, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Producing engineering drawings and documentation to support ongoing projects
  • Designing components and assemblies using existing designs and engineering principles
  • Assisting with the development of new products and equipment
  • Preparing detailed schematic and process flow drawings
  • Liaising with suppliers, contractors and internal departments to ensure project requirements are met
  • Supporting project coordination and ensuring drawing deadlines are achieved
  • Participating in technical and project meetings where required
  • Measuring and sketching components within workshop and site environments
  • Monitoring fabrication activities to ensure designs are manufactured correctly
  • Providing feedback and recommendations for design improvements
  • Producing job summary reports and recording lessons learned for future projects
  • Maintaining accurate project and engineering records
  • Ensuring compliance with all health, safety, environmental and quality procedures
  • Supporting the wider engineering team with additional duties as required

Requirements

To be considered for the Design Technician role, you must have the following:

  • Previous experience within a design, drafting or engineering environment
  • Experience using SolidWorks
  • High School Physics qualification or equivalent
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage workload and meet project deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Full UK Driving Licence preferred
  • AutoCAD experience would be advantageous
  • Experience within the energy, oil & gas or engineering sectors would be beneficial
  • Experience with PLM or ERP systems would be advantageous
  • Right to work in the UK is essential

Working Hours

  • Monday to Thursday: 07:30am – 4:30pm
  • Friday: 07:30am – 1:30pm

As the Design Technician you will be offered the following:
