Field Service Technician

Salary: £35,000 – £36,500 per annum
Contract Type: Permanent
Working Hours: Mon–Thurs 07:30–16:00 (30 min lunch) | Fri 07:30–12:30
About the Role
2020 Recruitment is working with a global leader in industrial equipment to recruit two experienced Field Service Technicians for their Manchester site. This role is perfect for hands-on engineers who thrive in the field, don’t mind hopping on a plane at short notice, and want to work on complex mechanical systems across the UK and overseas.
Reporting directly to the Service Manager, you'll take responsibility for the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and servicing of rotating and pressure equipment—including pumps, vacuum systems, and other mechanical plant—within industrial and wastewater environments.
A mix of workshop support and field-based travel is expected, with a £50/day per diem for travel assignments.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Carry out on-site mechanical maintenance, repairs, and commissioning activities
- Assist with workshop-based equipment servicing
- Compile detailed technical service reports and job documentation
- Conduct mechanical and electrical checks, including leak and pressure testing
- Support spares identification, inspections, and customer troubleshooting
- Liaise with engineering and service teams to ensure smooth project delivery
- Ensure HSE compliance at all times
- Travel at short notice both within the UK and internationally (extended periods possible)
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship (C&G, ONC, or HNC)
- CSCS Card (or ability to obtain one)
- Solid experience working with pumps, rotating equipment, or pressure systems
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and technical documents
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Full UK working rights and flexibility for travel
Desirable:
- Background in HGV or heavy plant engineering
- Experience within sewage or industrial systems
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
