2020 Recruitment is working with a global engineering organisation seeking a Global Commodity Manager
to take ownership of supplier relationships and strategic sourcing across castings, machining, and plastics commodities. This is a high-impact role requiring technical expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to operate within a complex global supply chain.
The Role
The Global Commodity Manager is responsible for managing a diverse, international supplier base and ensuring best-in-class supply chain performance across safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This role plays a key part in the business's global sourcing strategy and involves collaboration with multiple stakeholders across engineering, planning, procurement, and operations.
Key Responsibilities
As the Global Commodity Manager your duties will include:
- Develop and maintain commodity strategies aligned to business and supply chain requirements.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for the global market within castings, machining, and plastics.
- Conduct strategic sourcing activities to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
- Build and maintain strong supplier relationships based on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and capacity.
- Drive continuous cost reduction initiatives using VA/VE, total cost modelling, and stakeholder collaboration.
- Identify and mitigate risks across the supply base, including supply disruption, market volatility, and compliance issues.
- Support new product development by aligning sourcing strategies with engineering roadmaps.
- Manage the end-to-end supplier performance lifecycle, including contract negotiation and compliance.
- Use data analytics to drive decision-making and report on supplier performance and commodity health.
- Promote continuous improvement, best practice implementation, and process standardisation across sourcing activities.
- Engage in cross-functional communication with engineering, operations, and other internal stakeholders.
- Travel internationally to supplier sites or business locations when required.
Requirements
To be considered for the Global Commodity Manager role you require the following experience:
- Degree qualified or equivalent relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years in a commodity or procurement role, ideally within engineering or high-volume manufacturing.
- Strong technical knowledge of tooling, casting methods, foundries, and the plastics and machining supply base.
- Experience using Oracle ERP systems is advantageous.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite.
- CIPS Level 5 or 6 qualification is a plus.
- Skilled in contract management and negotiation.
- Strong analytical and time management skills in a dynamic and complex environment.
- Excellent communicator with experience presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Capable of driving solutions and taking full ownership of assigned commodities.
- Flexible, self-motivated, and improvement-focused.
- Right to work in the UK
