2020 Recruitment is working with an established engineering business in Glenrothes that specialises in medium to heavy precision machining and welding. The company is looking for a Machine Shop QA Inspector who can take ownership of day-to-day quality across the shop floor.
You’ll carry out inspections, oversee calibration and make sure quality procedures are followed in practice. You’ll work closely with machinists and production colleagues, stepping in when something is out of tolerance, the wrong material is issued or a required check has been missed. The client is looking for someone who can have those conversations directly and respectfully, then follow the issue through to resolution.
You’ll have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the quality function, with scope to take on more over time. The longer-term intention is for the successful candidate to develop into the Quality Manager position over the next few years.
What you’ll be doing
- Inspect machined components against engineering drawings, tolerances and customer specifications.
- Carry out in-process and final inspections and maintain accurate inspection records.
- Manage the machine shop’s calibration schedule, keep records up to date and ensure measuring equipment is fit for use.
- Work with production and stores to make sure operators have the correct materials for each job and that material identification and traceability are maintained.
- Check that operators follow agreed procedures and complete the required quality checks.
- Raise and investigate non-conformances, agree corrective actions with the relevant teams and follow them through.
- Help improve inspection methods and quality procedures where needed.
What we’re looking for
- Quality inspection or quality assurance experience in a machine shop, precision engineering or similar manufacturing environment.
- The ability to read engineering drawings and check components against specified tolerances.
- Practical experience using precision measuring equipment and managing or supporting calibration.
- A good understanding of quality procedures, non-conformance reporting and material traceability.
- The confidence to challenge a decision or raise a concern on the shop floor, with the judgement to handle it professionally.
- A practical approach, good communication skills and the ability to organise the day-to-day quality workload.
- An interest in developing towards a Quality Manager role.
Experience with medium to heavy machined components or welded fabrications would be useful.
The right to work in the UK is essential.
