Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer
2020 Recruitment are working with an established manufacturing business who are looking to add a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer with strong electrical experience to their team in the North Fife area.
This is an opportunity to join a well-established global business with a long history of manufacturing technical products for a variety of markets.
The business is continuing to grow and is looking for an experienced engineer who can use their electrical and mechanical knowledge to keep plant, equipment and production machinery operating safely and efficiently.
The Role
As the Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, you will provide electrical and mechanical engineering support across the site, carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance.
You will use your strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills to identify issues, carry out repairs and help prevent future breakdowns.
This is a hands-on position where you will work across a range of modern and legacy plant and equipment. You will need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment and able to prioritise your workload to minimise downtime.
You will also be involved in the installation and commissioning of new equipment, preventative maintenance and continuous improvement activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
As the Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting electrical and mechanical equipment and machinery to ensure it remains safe, functional and compliant
- Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults and determining the most appropriate repair
- Responding to breakdowns safely and effectively while minimising production downtime
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance in line with scheduled requirements
- Repairing electrical systems, wiring, motors, circuit breakers, control panels and associated equipment
- Carrying out mechanical repairs and maintenance on plant and machinery
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, electrical schematics and technical manuals
- Supporting the installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment
- Carrying out Factory Acceptance Testing where required
- Recording maintenance activities, faults, repairs and parts used through the CMMS system
- Maintaining accurate shift logs and engineering records
- Identifying potential equipment failures and recommending preventative action
- Advising on equipment lifespan and replacement requirements
- Supporting PUWER assessments
- Working closely with the Production team to maintain output and product quality
- Supporting design reviews and machinery development projects
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across engineering areas, workshops and stores
- Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with company procedures, legislation and Health & Safety requirements
- Contributing to continuous improvement across the Engineering function
Skills & Attributes
To be considered for the position of Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, you will ideally have:
- 3–5 years' experience in a similar mechanical and electrical maintenance role
- Recognised electrical engineering qualifications
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills
- Previous experience working within a manufacturing or production environment
- Experience using a CMMS or computerised maintenance management system
- Experience with PUWER assessments
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- A practical and hands-on approach to engineering
Working Pattern
This is a 12-hour rotating shift position covering both days and nights.
The shift pattern provides a good amount of time off, including one full week off per month and approximately one weekend shift per month.
Overtime is also available.
