2020 Recruitment are working with a global engineering organisation who, due to growing worldwide business opportunities, the launch of several new products, and increased demand for existing lines, are expanding their manufacturing engineering department. As part of this growth, they are looking to add a Senior Manufacturing/Project Engineer to their team.

This is a hands-on role that requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and strong project management capabilities. The role will require manufacturing process improvement experience, and thorough understanding of fundamental lean manufacturing principles. The role also provides cover for Senior Manager, Manufacturing Engineering in daily operation activities during periods of unavailability.

This is a permanent, full-time position based onsite in Dundee, with occasional travel required to support business needs.

The Role

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will be a key contributor to the successful delivery of new product introductions and process improvements. They will be responsible for defining, developing, and implementing robust manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness from concept to production.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Senior Manufacturing/Project Engineer your duties will include:

  • Lead and participate in new product introduction (NPI) projects, ensuring manufacturing readiness.
  • Deploy new products interacting with design engineering to ensure manufacturing issues are addressed and incorporated in new designs.
  • Contribute to a cross functional team environment with Design Engineering, Production, Procurement, and Planning to realise improved time to market with new products and to maintain our current production capability.
  • Design, develop, and implement efficient and cost-effective manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment.
  • Optimise existing manufacturing processes to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance quality.
  • Conduct process capability studies, FMEAs, and control plans to ensure process robustness.
  • Identify and implement digitisation and automation opportunities to enhance manufacturing efficiency.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Specify and procure new manufacturing equipment, coordinating installation and commissioning.
  • Provide technical support and training to production teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing principles.
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Work internally within the department, giving guidance to the Manufacturing Engineers in their own areas of responsibility.
  • Work with the Operations team to make operational adjustments as necessary, to ensure continued growth in productivity and efficiency, by reviewing KPIs, daily.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have the following skills and experience:

  • Degree-level (or equivalent) qualifications in an Engineering and/or a manufacturing discipline.
  • Proven experience in Project Management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable experience with new product introduction (NPI) and process development.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing principles, including Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with process simulation software is a plus.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Show leadership qualities with exceptional communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings.
  • Has a level of autonomy but can also escalate when appropriate.
