Skilled Mechanical Fitter - North West England

We’re currently recruiting for a Skilled Mechanical Fitter to join a leading name in the Industrial Pumps and Mixer industry in the Manchester area. This is a hands-on, onshore role involving the assembly and testing of pump and mixer equipment to a high standard of mechanical engineering.

This will initially be a contract but will be made permanent after 3 months. A permanent contract from day 1 may also be available for the right candidate.

Working within a close-knit team, you’ll be building high-performance components and equipment for key industrial sectors. This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served fitter with a mechanical background to join a business with long-term prospects.

Key Responsibilities

As Skilled Mechanical Fitter your duties will include the following:

  • Mechanical assembly of pumps and mixer equipment
  • Fitting components and modules using engineering drawings & technical specs
  • Carrying out production testing and completing accurate test documentation
  • Ensuring components are fit for purpose and meet quality standards
  • Safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and machinery
  • Recording work completed for production tracking
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure smooth build and workflow

Requirements

To be considered for the role you must have the following:

Qualifications (Essential):

  • Time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering
  • City & Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering (desirable)
  • Right to work in the UK and live within a commutable distance of Manchester

Experience:

  • Mechanical fitting experience in pumps, valves, machinery assembly or compressors
  • Experience with PC pumps and wastewater product assemblies (desirable)
  • Knowledge of mechanical seals (desirable)
  • Service background in pump maintenance (highly desirable)

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Manual handling, slinging & lifting training
  • Strong health & safety awareness
  • Basic electrical experience (desirable)
  • Motor wiring certification (desirable)

Work Schedule:

  • Monday–Thursday: 06:00–14:00 and 14:00–22:00 (rotating)
  • Friday: 06:00–12:00 and 12:00–18:00
  • Includes 30-minute break per shift

Package

  • Hourly rate up to £19.33 PAYE
  • Overtime available at premium rates 50% Weekdays & Saturday, 100% Sunday
  • 28 days holiday (pro rata for first 12 weeks)
