Temporary to Permanent | £13.45 per hour, with scope for a higher rate depending on experience.
Monday to Friday | 08:30–17:00

2020 Recruitment are working with an established manufacturing client who are looking to add a Skilled Sewing Machinist to their team in Glenrothes.

The business manufactures protective clothing and accessories for specialist markets. This is an opportunity for an experienced machinist to take on varied work covering garment customisation, repairs, sampling and product development.

You will work through 2020 Recruitment for the first 12 weeks before moving into permanent employment with the client.

The pay rate is £13.45 per hour, although there may be scope to increase this for the right candidate, depending on skills and experience.

The Role

As the Skilled Sewing Machinist, you will manufacture complete garments and component parts, carry out complex alterations and repairs, and produce samples to support new product development.

You must be confident working from patterns, specifications and technical instructions, completing work to a high standard without close supervision.

You will also support other production activities as required, adapting to the workload and priorities of the department.

Duties & Responsibilities

As the Skilled Sewing Machinist, your duties will include:

  • Carrying out garment customisation, alterations and repairs for commercial and public-sector customers.
  • Producing samples and supporting product design and development.
  • Manufacturing complete garments and component parts to technical specifications.
  • Completing complex sewing and garment construction operations.
  • Identifying construction or pattern-related issues and recommending practical solutions.
  • Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets quality standards.
  • Supporting material preparation, marking, pressing, stamping, kitting and embroidery activities as required.
  • Working with the wider production team to meet deadlines.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised working area.
  • Following company health and safety and quality procedures.

Requirements

To be considered for the Skilled Sewing Machinist position, you must have:

  • Significant experience as a sampling, alterations or production sewing machinist.
  • Strong knowledge of garment construction and industrial sewing techniques.
  • Experience carrying out garment customisation, alterations and repairs.
  • The ability to manufacture complete garments and component parts.
  • Confidence working from patterns, specifications, samples and technical instructions.
  • The ability to complete complex sewing work without close supervision.
  • High standards of accuracy, quality and attention to detail.
  • A practical approach to identifying and resolving problems.
  • Flexibility to operate different equipment and support varied production duties.
  • A reliable approach and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • The right to work in the UK.

Experience with technical clothing, outdoor garments or specialist sewn products would be advantageous. Knowledge of waterproof, coated or laminated fabrics, seam-sealing processes and embroidery or pressing equipment would also be beneficial.

Package

The successful candidate will be offered:

  • £13.45 per hour, with potential for a higher rate depending on skills and experience.
  • Monday to Friday working, 08:30–17:00.
  • Permanent employment with the client following 12 weeks through 2020 Recruitment.
  • Varied work across garment production, repairs, sampling and development.
