Welding Engineering and Training School Manager - Renfrewshire

Our well established engineering client in Renfrew is looking for a Welding Engineering and Training School Manager on a permanent basis. This role is primarily office and fabrication workshop based, however, due to the nature of the business projects are also completed on site, therefore, you may be required to work in adverse weather conditions occasionally.

This is a key managerial role within the business and you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the welding and fabrication operations at the site, which includes managing schedules, quality, production processes as well as the personnel.

You will be the technical authority on all welding methods and processes, as well as supporting internal operations conversations and external client discussions as needed. The position will also oversee the management of welding methods, qualifications, quality, welding-related continuous improvement initiatives and new welding R&D approaches.

Role and Key Responsibilities

  • Identify requirements for new WPQR/WPS for upcoming projects.
  • Produce and manage approval of new WPQR/WPS
  • Manage internal WPQR/WPS database and share with other departments.
  • Facilitate project bid reviews by providing a full technical appraisal of the project requirements.
  • Perform and document contract reviews of project technical specifications, drawings, and national standards to validate compliance.
  • Lead weld quality review forums, to reduce weld related rework. The forum is also setup to generate dispositions, identify corrective actions and preventative measures for any weld quality issues and report findings to the Group QHSE Manager
  • Represent the company as a technical authority (both internally and externally with clients).
  • Assistant responsibility for running the Welders including training and support.
  • Delivering training to the welding team and to clients to include experienced and trainee welders.
  • You will be responsible for all client equipment, plant and machinery used including its maintenance and calibration.
  • Ensure that the business is fully compliant with the ISO 3834-2 standard.
  • Assist with the preparation and transmittal of welding documentation to production areas.
  • Undertake checks of the welding processes being used to monitor compliance with the arrangements agreed.
  • Reporting on Welding KPI’s such as defects and non-conformances.
  • Leading, planning and implementing change as required operationally.
  • Contribute to brand marketing strategy in line with business objectives.
  • Translate drawings and design requirements into weld requirements and develop the method of qualification in-line with the relevant codes and standards.
  • Ensure qualification and renewal of welder performance qualifications are maintained.
  • Approval and control of all welding consumables.

 

 

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  • At least 5 years’ experience
  • Certified International Welding Engineer (IWE) or working towards
  • CSWIP 3.1
  • NC/HNC in welding/fabrication desirable
  • Experience training welders within all processes
